About

Drinks with Tony started in Spring 2002 while on at a lunch meeting with Chuck Palahniuk. Palahniuk's publicist was convinced that Tony was a real journalist. With a microphone and tape recorder, Tony taped and edited the interview and made it available for download on the internet.

Since then Drinks with Tony has been broadcast on KFJC, 89.7 FM, Los Altos Hills, Pirate Cat Radio, 87.9 FM, Los Angeles, 104.8 FM, Berlin and now resides at Radio Valencia, 87.9FM, San Francisco.

HUNH?

-Hi, wow, I'm updating the site and there's going to be a blog and more. I didn't realize how messy and old all of this was. So DwT was off the air for a little bit while I became very busy when my novel was published in 2010. Then busier promoting and working on my next book and with the producer who optioned Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk for a tv series.

I can't count all of the interviews, we're definitely in the hundreds and one of these days I'll get around to it and it'll probably be over a thousand by then. Unfortunately not all have been podcast due to various technical difficulties during the live broadcast. I used to obsessively tape my show just in case, but that kind of went out the window, especially now technology is a lot different than it was some years ago, so there's less podcast interuptions.

Things are also a bit different in that all interviews are live in studio on Wednesdays, unless it has been set up in advance, then, I'll still tape shows at a location. There are no phone interviews as of right now because there's nothing like talking to a person face to face, especially when they have a book or a record or film to plug, and I want to help promote what they're doing, but also get them off of the topic so we can find out who they are as a person....without the canned conversation.

Regarding how many listeners I have, I really don't want to know. The number will be too small or too large, either way I'll stress out. I even asked my publisher and agent not to tell me how many copies of my book were selling, but I should see my first statement soon. And, I'll probably throw up or have a panic attack.

That's why I make sure Drinks with Tony is also available on the radio. I love that feeling of not knowing, not being absolutely measured in this world of stats and analytics. As radio continues to go to shit and the internet will eventually take over the medium, I'm relishing the last moments of not knowing who is tuning in while driving to work, etc.

Yeah, I should make some money on this thing, so I'll stat up soon, until then, let's enjoy the bliss of the unknown together.

Blog coming as well. And the website will look prettier. And, I'm doing yoga now. And I'm divorced, boy, that's not fun. But Drinks with Tony is still fun. And, I purposely don't have a guest sometimes so I can just play pure guilty pleasure music and dance around the studio. Those who have walked in on me can attest, I do dance my ass off during the show.

So here's the old description for nostalgia's sake. Wow, times have changed:

Over 50 interviews with writers, filmmakers, musicians and actors have aired on the show. Most of the interviews have taken place at a bar to give the show a voyeuristic feeling like you're sitting on a bar stool within ear shot.

--that was written by an eager Tony many years ago. i almost want to pinch his cheek and tell him, you have no fucking clue man what's coming your way. both in blessing and suffering. --
