Allen Shawn "Wish I Could Be There" is Allen Shawn's memoir/scientific speculation on the life of an agoraphobic. He is an authority in the subject being agoraphobic himself. Agoraphobia is misinterpreted as fear of open places. It's actually a fear of a panic attack associated with other phobias including bridges, freeways, elevators, heights and more. As discussed during the show, I too suffer from panic attacks and agoraphobia as well as Chuck Palahniuk and other famous agoraphobics include Nicolas Cage and Kim Bassinger. Shawn's book is important for anyone suffering from phobias or those who want to understand what goes on in the mind of a person who suffers from the affliction. Sometimes it doesn't feel like there's hope or a cure for phobias, but knowing that others, especially those leading highly successful lives, can understand your feelings 100%, that might be all it takes to get through to tomorrow.
